Industry

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry Antwerp is your gateway to the world. The industry departement of the Chamber is an independent initiative bridging between the industrial companies and local authorities, covering a wide range of topics (a.o. competitivity – labour market & education – mobility – sustainability – taxation – …) being handled in several working groups and initiatives. In this way, the departement aims at strengthening the competitiveness of the local industries.

Today, there are 288 active industrial branches in the Antwerp region. Together, they create an added value of 15 billion euros and employ 46,500 people.

The petrochemical industry forms the sector’s backbone. Antwerp is the largest petrochemical cluster of Europe and second largest in the world (after Houston, Texas).
A transnational network of pipelines connects chemical and refining companies to Rotterdam in the Netherlands and Ludwigshafen in Germany, amongst others. This guarantees Antwerp a constant supply of ethylene, hydrogen, naphtha, petroleum, gas, nitrogen, oxygen, propylene and steam
